When a user visits a page that they do not have access granted to, one of several results can happen based on how you setup the page.

  • The page can be marked as hidden, resulting in a 404.
  • The page can be marked as redirected, which allows you to send the visitor to another page altogether.
  • The page can be marked as Excerpt Only, which replaces the main page content with the Excerpt.

The Excerpt can come from one of two sources: The first source is the Excerpt for the page which is defined on that page. The second source is the “Default Excerpt” which is defined in the Memberium settings in the Admin Dashboard. You’ll go to Memberium -> Settings -> Content Protection tab to add default excerpt.

When a visitor reaches a page Excerpt, the system will first attempt to display the Excerpt defined for that particular page. If no Excerpt is defined, the system will display the “Default Excerpt”.

If neither Excerpt is defined, nothing will be displayed.

Note: If you do not find the box to input a customized excerpt at the bottom of a page or a post, go to the screen options on the top of the page/post and ensure that the excerpts check box is ticked.

Nestable Shortcodes

First_matryoshka_museum_doll_openWhen working with conditional shortcodes it’s often useful to have a series of tests, one after another, where each test determines if the user is qualified to continue to the next test.

Due to a limitation in WordPress’s design, the built-in shortcode system is very fast but it does not know how to count levels of nesting, so it cannot match each opening tag with its correct closing tag. In order to cleanly support this feature while not sacrificing performance, we provide the ability to nest shortcodes by giving each nested group of shortcodes a unique name by adding a number to the end. You can think of this like a Russian Matryoshka doll.
